BEWILDERMENT AS SIERRA LEONE GOVERNMENT APPROVES NEW CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF ELECTORAL COMMISSIONER



On Tuesday the 28 July 2020, the house of Parliament debated on the approval of the President appointing Mohamed Kanneh former head of financial intelligence units as the chairman and chief electoral commissioner of the National Electoral Commission [NEC] in Sierra Leone.
 The main opposition party All Peoples Congress (A.P.C) disagreed with the President’s appointment. The leader of the main opposition Hon. Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah said that Mohamed Kanneh is not qualified to be the chairman and chief electoral commissioner of the commission but on the contrary, the leader of the National Grand Coalition (N.G.C) Hon. Kandeh Yomkellah and Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina leader of the Coalition 4 Change (C.4.C) said that they agrees with the President’s appointment while reiterating that Mohamed Kanneh is the right person to be in that position.

After series of debating, the speaker of the house of Parliament Hon. Abass Bundu announced the approval of Mohamed Konneh as the chairman and chief electoral commissioner of the national electoral commission (N.E.C) in Sierra Leone.
