For immediate release
The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, H.E. Brig. Rtd. Julius Maada Bio declared “State of Public Emergency” in the whole Sierra Leone on Tuesday 24th March 2020. Parliament unanimously approved existence of the “State of Public Emergency” on 26th March 2020. With these measures taken to contain the threat of the global pandemic, COVID 19 currently ravaging countries around the world; first and second COVID 19 infection cases were confirmed in the country on 31st March, and 1st April respectively. These unfortunate events prompted government to announce a National Lockdown of the entire country commencing 5th to 7th April 2020. During this period, movement is only limited to healthcare workers, security personnel and few other essential staff whilst the rest of the general public are required to remain at home to prevent human-to-human transmission of the virus.
Considering the above, Marie Stopes Sierra Leone wishes to affirm its unwavering solidarity to the Government and people of Sierra Leone by opening its Clinics nationwide for healthcare service delivery to the needy public. We would support Sierra Leone Emergency Operations Centres (EOC) efforts at all levels to disseminate COVID-19 awareness and prevention messages through radio, television, social media; and engaging public and private sector development partners to combat the onslaught of COVID-19 in Sierra Leone.
Our activities will also include full operation of our Contact Center Number free-toll line, 3535 (accessible on Orange, Africell, Qcell & SierraTel) in close collaboration with government’s hotline, 117 for effective emergency response coordination in areas needed. We would continue to receive calls from the public, receive and make referrals to our clinics or public health centers based on the healthcare needs. We would also provide mini-ambulance services for critical clients who have needs for healthcare after an initial on call triage on 3535.
We continue to thank all telecommunications companies - Orange, Africell SL, Q-CELL & SierraTel SL for their support. Our clients, their families and stakeholders can reach us through the toll-free line 3535 to learn more about our services or book their preferred choice of Services at a Clinic.
